three contingent routes for gestating (Im)probable Images

2024 - on going

We have been told about the end of the world so many times that it is not difficult to share Andrea Soto Calderón’s suspicion that we are going through an era of the obstruction of imagination and, with it, the slow cancellation of the future, or rather, a continuous distrust not only in its loss but in the possibility of it being something better. Paradoxically, while we could say that we live in a period in which the ability to produce images has never been so massive, one of the consequences of this obstruction is not an excess of images per se, but rather an excess of the production of the same images. For example, we could say that when we visit the world, we no longer wish to discover it. Instead, we constantly seek a repetition of the information previously obtained from that experience. Vilem Flusser would call this repetition of information probable images. Therefore, if we already know the probable, the question then is how to expand the possible.
