Valeria Arendar (b. 1994)

Argentinian-Mexican visual artist and educator. She studied Photography at the Escuela Activa de Fotografía (2013-2015) and holds a degree in Social Communication from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (2014-2018). She is a CONAHCYT scholarship recipient and currently an MFA candidate in Art Studies with a specialization in Art History and Critical Theory at Universidad Iberoamericana. In 2019, she completed the Photography Production Seminar at Centro de la Imagen. She is a two-time recipient of the FONCA Jóvenes Creadores grant (2021-2022, 2024-2025) and was an artist-in-residence at Centro de las Artes de San Agustín, Etla, in 2022.

Her artistic practice has been recognized internationally, with nominations for the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award (2022) and the 6x6 North and Central America Talents programme by World Press Photo (2020). Focused on fiction as a framework for opening spaces that challenge the apparent solidity of reality, she sees fiction not merely as a narrative device but as a performative act that separates objects and images from their predetermined meanings.

Valeria’s projects have been exhibited individually and collectively in Argentina, Guatemala, Mexico, Ukraine, Lebanon, Lithuania, France, Canada, Georgia, India, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

She has collaborated with publications such as Fishe Eye Magazine, Letargo Revista, PhMuseum, and Otros Diálogos. In addition to her artistic practice, she has taught photography and visual arts at institutions such as Escuela Activa de Fotografía, Gimnasio de Arte y Cultura, and the Secretaría de Cultura de Yucatán.

She is a member of Foto-Féminas and Women Photograph.
